Everyone here who says it is impossible is basically wrong and are quite far from being black hats.
By using Rainbow Tables, you can find passwords.
Ophcrack does this, however the currently available rainbow tables are fairly limited for Vista currently (also the tables are much bigger).
I’ll let you look up Ophcrack on your own since it doesn’t really seem like worth downloading (huge tables and currently limited tables for Vista) and using for your assignment.

This is easy, turn off the computer, then turn it on, while its in the bios menu .. Start pushing the heck out of the function button F8, this can be located on your keyboard above the numbers 1-9.
This will open up a menu sort of list and will give you options to boot in safe mode. It really does not matter which mode you choose, but do choose one. Once the selected mode is placed, go ahead and click the Administrator name. This will log you in as the Administrator of the computer. From here, you can goto the control panel and under users, you may remove current passwords from accounts.

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system,
you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is
always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to
help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a
few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you
the light.
1st Method:
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it
automatically creates an account “Administrator” and sets its password to blank. So if you
have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys
twice and it’ll show Classic Login box. Now type “Administrator” (without quotes) in
Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in
Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from “Control Panel -> User Accounts”.
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built
Administrator account in Login screen.
2th Method:
There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but we’ve found that
Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.: http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com
Windows Password Recovery Tool is one of the easiest password recovery tools to use. It
allows you to reset a user account password, including the Administrator password. It is
also a relatively small download.

It’s not possible. There are several utilities that will allow you to reset the Administrator account password but none that can read it. All require you to boot to a floppy or CD with the tools installed.
This is the one that I use: http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/ I’ve been using it since Windows NT 4.0 and it’s the best and safest in my professional opinion. As far as I know it’s the only free tool that will crack a Vista admin password.
Ignore the instructions to press F8 during bootup and boot into Safe Mode. That sometimes worked in XP or earlier versions of Windows IF the Administrator account had a blank password. Vista does not allow a blank Administrator password so that won’t work with Vista.

No way. You can delete the password with several Apps but you will lose the Password.

ok for one some of you are totally wrong about safe mode that is for xp not vista.two there are many ways to do this but it is hard for a skid to do since they know nothing.

You can’t. All passwords are stored by one-way encryption and can not be read back. On earlier versions there were ways to get past the passwords, but all required changing an admin password. On Vista this has gone.

Start in safe mode
F8 repeatedly on startup.
select safe mode.
log into Administrator account.
if it’s also got a password, your out of luck.

Guess, Guess, Guess, and Guess some more! That is your only option without downloading a password reset disk and deleting her password.

Strange question insofar as I can’t help wondering how you would feel if somebody was able to access your computer without leaving a trace

You can’t that’s the beauty of vista for its security
